Modernized Text

Great monarch of the world whose people do
Pay homage due and for earth's fulness too,
Who on the liquid floods he there did please
To set its pillars and in deepest seas
Laid its foundations! Who is't then shall climb
This hill of wonder, this place so divine?
He, he shall do't whose heart and hands are pure,
No gifts can tempt or vanity allure.
He shall the wreath of victory sure obtain,
That from thy hand, oh Lord, these graces gain.
Lift then up your heads ye firm gates of hope,
Ye everlasting doors of joy fly ope'
That he in royal state may enter in That is your lord and your triumphant King!
Who's this triumphant King? Oh, he's no doubt
The lord of battles that's both strong and stout!
Lift then up your heads ye firm gates of hope,
Ye everlasting doors of joy stand ope'!
As arms extended out receive you in
With acclamations this your glorious King!
Who is this King of glory? Show't that we
May give him praise! The Lord of Hosts is he.
