Modernized Text

The heathen rage, the people storm, and why?
'Cause all they do imagine's but a lie.
The monarchs of the earth and rulers, too,
Meet there in secret counsel what to do
'Gainst thine anointed. "Let's break," say they,
"The bands asunder and cast our cords away!"
But He who on his throne celestial sits
Laughs at them as men in frantic fits;
Yet will he take account on such as hath
Despised his voice, and vex them in his wrath:
"Though there vain mortals plot, yet I will
Enthrone my King on Zion's sacred hill;
And the decree will show, they know not:
Thou art my son, this day I've thee begot.
As heir of all, to thee I've given
Earth in full pocession, with the Heathen."
Be wise, O then, ye monarchs of the earth;
Learn wisdom, too, ye sages here beneath;
With reverence bow ye, and with fear rejoice:
To serve the Lord let this, then, be your choice
Lest when provoked, in wrathful anger come,
He cut you off. Blest they that kiss the Son.
